We are committed to improving the diversity of our leadership as demonstrated in our West Yorkshire race review report to tackle health inequalities for minority ethnic communities and colleagues by understanding the impact of inequality, reducing it, and supporting recovery, so our leadership can be more representative of the people we serve. We have also produced a 'one year on' report and 'connected on inclusion' update.
West Yorkshire Race Equality Network
Our workforce is more diverse than it has been any other time previously. Unfortunately, across some levels of our organisations, particularly in leadership positions, our workforce does not reflect the ethnic diversity of our population. There is considerable evidence which suggests tackling workforce race and equality would improve staff experience, organisational efficiency and most importantly, improve outcomes for the people using our health and care services. Furthermore, it is important that colleagues should be able to look at the leadership and see themselves represented.
The Race Equality Network is a formal part of our infrastructure, with real influence and purpose. You can find out more about how you can get involved by emailing wy.
The Fellowship Programme
In West Yorkshire we are embracing the opportunity to increase the sphere of influence across senior leadership via our Fellowship Programme (formally known as The BAME Fellowship). The Fellowship Programme aims to enable colleagues from ethnic minorities across the Partnership to develop careers, as well as system leaders.
This will help to create more inclusive workplaces and deliver a fairer society by increasing ethnic minority representation, to ensure that our priorities are designed with the communities they aim to support.
